Mysore

Famous for its good climate and beautiful, lush countryside, Mysore has long been a charmed and popular city both to live in and to visit.

Mysore was also the seat of the ruling Maharajahs who, on account of their huge princely state and their resulting wealth, were one of the most extravagant of all India's ruling families.

The vast and exquisite Indo-Saracenic palace in the heart of the city where their descendants still live to this day, and also the glimmering white summer palace (now the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel), are just part of the rich historical legacy that remains in Mysore. An ideal place to shop for the city's famous silks or to wander around the colourful and bustling fruit and vegetable markets with a pervading perfume of sandalwood and other incenses lingering in the air, Mysore is one of southern India's most charming cities.
